Today in 1886
The New York Times declares the struggle for an eight-hour workday to be “un-American” and calls public demonstrations for the shorter hours “Labor disturbances brought about by foreigners.” Other publications declare that an eight-hour workday would bring about “loafing and gambling, rioting, debauchery and drunkenness.”

Mar. 13, 2012 | Members of the Local negotiating committee (L-R) Chris Whitcomb, Orlando Monroe, Gary Clark and Dan Heitzer discuss proposals before a February 28th session with company representatives. Also in the committee are Bill Rider, Chris Greene, Business Agents Jim Deene, Dan Taylor and President Denis Taylor. Talks continue.
